The School of Community Government is responsible for training the NWT’s next generation of leaders. Using an integrated approach to capacity building, the school coordinates a system of training and development for community governments, their staff and organizations that support community governments.
This approach includes a variety of training courses in areas ranging from governance, management and finance to community recreation leadership and facility operation. The challenge is to provide opportunities for consistent, high quality training courses that help participants achieve occupational certification.
Tait has worked with the School of Community Government to develop training materials and instruct a number of courses offered through the SCG, including:
- Computer and business communications
- Northern recreation leadership
- Personal management skills
- Recreation facility operations
- Volunteer development
- Youth programs and services
Working with existing course materials, Tait develops instructional plans for each course that are designed to meet the specific needs of the enrolled participants. Dynamic and engaging trainers lead participants through all of the materials and evaluate their progress toward achieving course credit. Participant reviews and feedback from the client reveal that Tait training exceeds expectations and puts participants into positions to succeed once they return to work. While course content usually exists for each School of Community Government course, Tait regularly adds value by updating the curriculum in consultation with MACA to ensure participants learn about current trends and best practices in their fields.
