The goal of the Come Make Your Mark campaign is build interest in the Northwest Territories as a place to live, work and play, and ultimately to recruit new residents to the territory. And what better way to spread the message about living in the North than to give potential northerners the opportunity to speak face-to-face with people who live there? That’s why Tait developed a plan to attend a series of job fairs and tradeshows across the country.
Each year that Tait has managed the Come Make Your Mark campaign, we have attended job fairs and tradeshows in key target markets throughout Canada—those places where we would be most likely to find people ready to move to the NWT. This included Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario, as well as nine post-secondary institutions across the country.
Recently, we have also attended the Yellowknife Community Spring Trade Show, as well as a recruitment drive in Grande Prairie, AB, organized by Dominion Diamond. The Yellowknife show allowed us to recruit local business partners and to engage the local community to spread the word about the campaign to their contacts outside the NWT. In partnering with Dominion Diamond and the GNWT Department of Human Resources, we were able to speak to potential northerners in Grande Prairie, AB, where a nearby mine was about to close.
To create an impact at the job fairs and tradeshows, Tait produced a booth backdrop, small giveaways, contest prizes, informational handouts and more.
