The City of Yellowknife launched a pilot composting program in 2009. In 2014 it began expanding the program, with plans to include all of Yellowknife within a few years. The City wanted to highlight the program and its progress so far, as well as to inform residents of the benefits of composting.
The information had to be displayed in an easy-to-read, fun and interesting manner, as it needed to catch the attention of potential readers and carry them through the information. The piece needed to describe the “who, where, what, when and why” of the program and relate it to larger trends within the environment, encouraging residents to consume less and divert more waste from the landfill. The final product needed to be a large poster that was capable of being printed and shown on the web. The City came to Tait because we had completed previous work for the composting program.
Tait created a highly illustrative concept that showcased statistics, facts and best practices. It was approved by the client after several rounds of edits, to get the details just right. The final product applied the City Compost program’s colour scheme, illustrative style, fonts, etc., and was engaging to the eye. Data was presented in a clean, organized, yet fun manner that enticed the viewer to read the entire poster.
