Mine Training Society: Annual Reports 2007/08 to 2009/10

Challenge

The Mine Training Society was an NWT success story waiting to be told. It exists to help create opportunities for northerners in the mining and mine support industries — yet until recently, few knew about what MTS actually did, or how to access training and support.

Solution

Knowing that nothing resonates more in the NWT than stories of its people, Tait Communications suggested a magazine style annual report to put a human face to the work of MTS. The report told the MTS story through the stories and words of northerners — primarily MTS’ trainees and partners.

Result

A reader survey confirmed the publication as accessible, visually enticing, and striking the right balance of business content and human interest. The annual report was so well received, a second printing was required, and other organizations emulated the MTS approach to annual reporting. Tait continued to use this popular story-telling format in the 2008/09, and 2009/10 annual reports.
