Challenge

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources wanted to communicate with residents around the North about wood as a heating source. The video was to promote both the environmental and financial benefits of this alternative and renewable energy source. The audience for the message was widely dispersed throughout the NWT, with varying levels of English literacy.

Solution

“Wood You Like To Save Some Money?” features local Northerners from across the territory talking about traditional uses of fire for heat, and about the current-day benefits of this sustainable resource.  The DVD format is highly portable, visually appealing, and communicates effectively with oral users of language, or those for whom English is not their first language. The DVD was distributed to and through Chambers of Commerce, northern communities, band offices, housing authorities, power companies and Arctic Energy Alliance offices.
